Mudlow - Bad Turn - Coloured Vinyl LP
Bad Turn, the new album from Mudlow, is a distinctively scuzzy take on the blues. Dirt-pounding grooves and claustrophobic noir blues combine it this career-defining tour de force.
Mudlow - “Lower Than Mud” - Out Now
Gumbo rock & swampy noir blues
Whiskey Preachin Records are very pleased to announce the release of “Lower Than Mud” on 29th October 2021, the first single from the upcoming Mudlow album "Bad Turn", which will be released in full in February 2022. “Lower Than Mud” is somewhat of a signature tune for the long-running Brighton-based band, delivering their dirty gumbo of blues and funk to maximum effect. There's plenty of grit gone into making this pearl, that’s for sure.
Mudlow have been making trouble and music for over twenty years, playing stages as far-flung as Minnesota’s Deep Blues festival, Belgium’s Muddy Roots festival and Dorset’s Dark Holler festival. Their good fortune has led them to play alongside household names such as T Model Ford, Cedric Burnside, Seasick Steve, Scott H. Biram, The Detroit Cobras, The Jim Jones Review, Daddy Longlegs, The Bonnevilles and Alabama 3. Now it is time for Mudlow to be a household name.
Dangerous and unashamedly funky, Mudlow’s world is populated with characters full of lament and thoroughly committed to their mistakes. Tobias Tester (Guitar/Vocals), Matt Latcham (Drums, Percussion) and Paul Pascoe (Bass/ Producer) soundtrack these fables of misfortune with their distinctly scuzzy take on the blues.
Prepare to enter their world as Mudlow take you Lower Than Mud…
Our Mission is bring you good people the finest in Gumbo Rock, Outlaw Boogie and 21st Century Honky Tonk music from where ever we find it. Whiskey Preachin Started out as a club night (well, OK, a pub night) in Brighton (UK) back in early ‘12. Whiskey Preachin has evolved since those early days, first to include the radio show (there’s an archive on this website), then this website, and finally the record label. If it’s your first time visiting us here, have a scoot about, and maybe subscribe to our updates so we can let you know when something happens. Thanks for popping by.
Whiskey Preachin:
A Brief History
Whiskey Preachin started in a dream, literally. I had been seeking a name for a new DJ night I was planning at a little Whiskey bar down in Brighton. I wanted to play the records I love to a Friday night crowd getting loaded on bourbon and rye, bringing a soundtrack of honky tonk, Southern rock, swampy blues and country funk to a discerning, intoxicated crowd. One night I awoke in the small wee hours with the name Whiskey Preachin bouncing around my skull. I now had the name, and the posters for the night soon followed, courtesy of Chris Sick. Things were starting to take shape, but I knew that any DJ night is more fun when there are two of you selecting the music. I needed a partner in crime. Call it serendipity, but on the very first WP night I was approached by a fellow music lover and record spinner, Señor Mick. We decided to share duties on the next WP night, and a partnership was born that has evolved from just a name to a regular event, now running for seven years, to a radio show and a website, and to playing records to enthusiastic festival crowds. Now, another dream has become a reality. Compiling my favourite new music for release on Whiskey Preachin Records, often for the first time on vinyl, has been a joy. Having the opportunity to share this wonderful music, and bring these talented artists to the attention of a wider record-buying public, is nothing if not an honour. From the very start, Whiskey Preachin has given me the excuse I needed to roll back my musical horizons as far as my ears could hear. I hope you get as much satisfaction from the music I have discovered along the way. So pour yourself a few fingers of your favourite libation, roll up the rug, turn up the stereo and drop the needle, baby, we’re gonna shake the shack tonight!
